Blog

It's been a superb summer so far. Lots of festival weekends so we've been able to spend the weekdays with our families in between some rockin' shows.  I started out the summer with an all out attack on my yard. I pulled out the orbital sander and when after the gazebo, the deck and the teak table and chairs. After several quarts of stain, my backyard morning tea is once again has a fresh woody flavor. Spring touring yielded the makings of a nice live album. We're picking the best performances and getting the KDTU Live record together for a mid-fall release. We've also just embarked on recording the next KDTU studio album which is going to be based on classic hip hop beats.

More to come...

Swimming!

Swimming, Swimming, Swimming! 1700 yards this morning! I'm gonna be jogging around the stage in Telluride and barely sweating, I hope. I'm really excited about the Larry Coryell set at the jazz festival. Paul Wertico and Mark Egan on drums and bass.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend everyone! Send up special prayers for our leaders to do the right thing so our soldiers are not dying and being maimed in vain. "What have we learned from history.... Apparently Nothing"

Thanks to everyone who came out to support Chris' sister Kelly. We had a great time and she was very moved by the turnout. She only made it through the first set though due to the chemo related fatigue. Please keep her in your prayers.

The kids at my high school gig were great yesterday. I have the jazz band, orchestra and choir in one room performing Brother's Keeper and Take It Down Low. A little pitchy but we're working on that. Great kids though. Rehearsal #4 today then some GBA tonight at the Belly Up. Benefit concert for Chris Stillwell's sister. She's fighting cancer. Come out and lend a hand y'all!

Crazy couple of days getting to Raleigh. Flight cancelled in Houston Friday night. So we spent the night there then flew to Greensboro and drove to Raleigh just in time for the gig. Hot and humid but a great crowd. Now back home through Charlotte. AND I'M SPENT!!

Flying to Raleigh today for the Artsplosure tomorrow. Raleigh is named after Sir Walter Raleigh who was a fairly wild character who liked to smoke tobacco, eat potatoes, and in the end, lost his head. Yikes!!!

Rehearsed with some kids at a local high school Canyon Crest Academy today. I'm doing a 4 song program there in June with the band, orchestra and choir. Met my rhythm section today. Great kids with lots of talent and energy. Next week I get to hear the whole thing together for the first time. Looks like it's gonna be an interesting experience.

A Springtime Update

Springtime is upon us! Getting a lot of rain in SoCal this year. Time to plant my garden and get back out on the road.

The Galactic Mardi Gras run was a blast. I finally got to sing a tune by my favorite Rock and Rollers "The Band", and a we had a nice bunch if sold out shows in the Big Sky Country.

Looks like there's a live record in the works and GBA is headed back into the studio to stir up some more commotion and secret boogaloo potions. Looking forward to getting back to High Sierra this year and making my first trip to Alaska. I'm gonna try to catch me a big Halibut.

See you all soon one place or another. Everyone be safe on the road and remember, Funk Is Our Business And Business Is Good!

Welcoming the Year 2010

Happy New Year folks!  Been playing some of the best shows of my life lately.  The Greyboy Allstars have been on fire and Jamcruise was the best ever, which is really saying something.  Maceo Parker completely baffled me on Jamcruise with his bulletproof funk and has sent me back to the woodshed to see if I can close the  gap on him this year.  KDTU is back in full effect starting in Tahoe this weekend, after which we'll come home for some rehearsal time and then take off for a couple of weeks, starting with Galactic and finishing off out under "The Big Sky".  Adding more tracks from the new album soon!  The Music Is Good For Your Soul!!
Peace Out, KD

Second Leg of Brother’s Keep Tour

We just finished the second leg of the " Brother's Keeper" tour, working our way down from Washington state, through Oregon and ending up in L.A.. We're having a great time with the new music from the album. We also went back and learned some very old stuff too. Starting to see some mouths singing along with the new songs, getting a lot of yea yea's on "Shake It Out". Chris Stillwell is doing  a standout job of filling in for Ron Johnson who has been touring with singer/ songwriter Brett Dennen since the beginning of the year. Ron Stopped by and threw down with us in Santa Cruz and L.A., then I dropped in of him and the Dennen crew in San Diego where they opened for Jason Mraz. It was a blast playing with Brett and Jason Mraz put on a great show. Home for a week and a half And then we head east again on the last run of the year. Halloween's gonna be Outta Sight!! See you out there!
peace out,  KD

Dumbledore

Gonna burn the midnight oil and get some tracks finished. Doing a little setup with my little buddy Dumbledore on my shoulder. He like to nibble on my beard.

Breaking News

Breaking News!! A tragedy was averted by the wizard-like intuition of Chris Stillwell who last night in Des Moines, IA insisted that we put the boot on the trailer wheel before we all retired for the night. Below is what we found when we awakened. Thebes!!! They tried to jack our shizit!!!

Had a great summer.

Had a great summer. Played lots of festivals. Switched back and forth between KDTU And GBA but only worked weekends, which left lots of time for family and gardening. Grew tomatoes, string beans, nectarines, okra, melons and am awaiting the maturation of about 15 eggplants. My yard is kicking ass at the moment. Green And Happy!
